Hello friends and followers of the YACCB,
We started rehearsals in January and are well on our way preparing the music for the summer concert season. The music this summer will be from a variety of movie scores with much of the music composed by John Williams. Some selections by John Williams will be from films like Superman, Jaws, Star Wars, Midway, Harry Potter, and 1941. To show the more sensitive side of John Williams' talents as a composer, music from Lincoln and Schindler's List will be performed. Music from other films will be played such as The Wizard Of Oz, O Brother Where Art Thou, Gettysburg, and selections from the late James Horner: Apollo 13, Braveheart, and Titanic. We will feature a tribute to the late Burt Bacharach with the playing of the title song from the 1966 film, Alfie.
Although our schedule is still not complete, concerts in Austintown, Mercer, Pa., and Boardman Park have been finalized in our calendar. The Austintown Park concert will feature a collaboration with the literary group called Lit Youngstown. The Boardman Park concert, previously called "Music In The Park With Friends," will now be called "Christmas In July." This will be a food drive for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Dry goods will be collected before the concert featuring the YACCB and the Canfield Community Band as our guest band. The band will also perform at the YSU Festival Of The Arts at Wean Park. After their concert, band members will take part in an "Instrumental Petting Zoo" at the children's tent
where students can get an up close look at the horns, hear their sounds, and get to see and understand how the conductor uses the baton and his hands to communicate to the band and the audience.
The full and constantly updated list of concerts is available on our calendar page.
So, dust off your lawn chairs, bring some friends and family, and plan to attend this summer's program as the YACCB takes you to the movies.
“To stop the flow of music would be like the stopping of time itself, incredible and inconceivable.” ― Aaron Copland
